Ajé...
....................
With a bleary eye
you can see a weary mile
evil may thread on wisdom aisle,
Who cares? Not me, myself and I.
Ill-wills only distressed me and give me bile
borrow me wisdom for my morrow to smile
my yester-banes still are on the pile
imbibed, revived, revised, in a file.
Money they say makes the globe whirl,
tell it to come my way more than awhile,
in fold at my feet flows like Egypt and Nile,
one that any coherent sewage of life won't defiles,
but now in my path it's departing, not coming, why?
Apart from a walk-through in my apartment, it hasn't arrived.
Let it shine, let it rain, let it come into my life.
Then Devil visited, pledged to raise my height,
with an earsplitting voice, his gob reeks vile.
If it should pull me in; fire is nigh,
if I let go this chance; I may go senile,
how to feed my hunger?; A litany to be wise,
I plan to woo on, till 'Ajé' chooses me as wife,
Evil and down line wager, they cast a die,
I'll fail has the largest stake, funeral in pyre,
they'd suspire sadly, reproach while they sigh,
As I stitch once and save nine.
